I will always remember the day we brought home our very first English bulldog puppy, Thor. From day one he just clicked with our entire family! I honestly couldn’t imagine our lives without him. We have gone through a few different dogs, kind of funny our first puppy (after having kids) was a miniature schnauzer that our daughter named Miley (yes, after Miley Cyrus, back in the Hannah Montana, pre-shaved head days). She was a great dog, but wasn’t 100% suited for our family’s personality. Miley actually lives back in St Louis, MO with my parents who happily adopted her when we could no longer keep her. After Miley left our daughter was very sad, our son was very little only 5 months old when we decided to adopt a dog and give this another try. My husband found this sweet little chihuahua mix named Rosie. Rosie was the same age as our son when we adopted her. She has the sweetest, most gentle disposition and she was AMAZING with both of the kids. She never barked and had more of a cat-type character, loved being pet and held and loved. A little over a year after having Rosie we came to realize that our son was highly allergic to her long-hair, unfortunately. Although most fortunately, my in-laws decided to adopt Rosie so now we get to see her very often as she also lives in Aliso Viejo. I love how we nurtured two pets and handed them off to our parents, which in the end worked out best for all parties involved!
My husband has always wanted an English Bulldog, for as long as I have known him (almost 17 years now…) he has wanted one. I just couldn’t bring myself to the idea of getting another dog, although I loved the idea of having a dog I just didn’t know how our kids would react…or if this dog would click with our personalities and our family…or if I even wanted to deal with the headache of training another puppy (they’re more work than kids, right?!). But, the day my husband showed me a photo that the breeder had texted him (yup, he already found a breeder and everything)…I just melted. From that day on, I too became an English bully lover. I’m obsessed.
Thor…born on Feb 18, 2014 was a little bundle of CUTENESS. Before he even had any of his shots I actually took him out with our kids and did a photo shoot (of course!). Everyone loved him, it was definitely LOVE at first sight.
He is definitely “our” dog…the type of dog that WE were meant to have. He snorts, he farts, he loves to play with his toys, he is super sociable. He’s ours. I would totally recommend an English Bulldog if you have kids. Thor is super protective of our kids, well of anyone in our family really. He is also a LOVER boy. He adores being pet and if you love dogs (he can sense it), he will love you right back.
We adore our puppy and just celebrated Thor’s FIRST birthday! I know, I probably went a little over the top with the hat and frosty paws with peanut butter topping but he loved it, that’s all that matters. Happy FIRST birthday Thor, we love you and can’t wait to share many more years with you!
